Troubleshooting Firmware Update Issues with ReplicatorG and Ultimaker

When attempting to update the firmware on your Ultimaker using ReplicatorG, you may encounter a 'New Firmware Available' message box indicating that a newer version (1.0) of the Ultimater - Arduino Mega Shield v1.5.X (Mega 2560 only) firmware is available. However, you may find yourself unable to update the firmware due to connectivity issues between ReplicatorG and your Ultimaker.

In my case, I recently assembled a new Ultimaker and was excited to start printing, but was frustrated by the inability to update the firmware through ReplicatorG. The button to update the firmware is grayed out, making it impossible to proceed with the update process.

Fortunately, using Netfabb, I was able to connect to my Ultimaker using COM3 and utilize the USB controls. This allowed me to control the nozzle movement using the arrow keys and the platform movement using the page up/down keys. While this provided some relief, I still needed to find a solution for updating the firmware.
